Things to Do in the Historic East Side of Santa Fe, New Mexico 2024

There’s every bit of Santa Fe history is in and around the Santa Fe Plaza and the Historic East Side up Canyon Road, up East Alameda, and up a Acequia Madre, which is named for the historic irrigation ditch, the Acequia Madre, which is Mother Ditch, Mother Acequia. So the Acequia Madre runs the ditch, the irrigation ditch, the Acequia runs all along Acequia Madre, which is just one block south of Canyon sort of parallels, canyon road, same thing going sort of from the plaza area all the way up into the mountain and at the top there, like at the top of Canyon, and the top of where East Alameda comes in is the Audubon Society, and they have hundreds of acres that have hiking trails and everything that you can just drive up or walk up to, and then hike for miles up in the foothills above Canyon Road. So Audubon Society is beautiful up there. They have some buildings with exhibits, and they have a famous house. I’ll send you the send you the link to the house, one of the famous artists, and they bought that. The Audubon bought that, and that’s open to the public.

There’s the nature Conservancy preserve. That’s where Cerro Gordo Road and Canyon Road meet at the top of the Cerro Gordo crosses over the river, and that’s sort of the end of everything. Then you come few more houses, and then there’s Audubon, but the Nature Conservancy has hundreds of acres there, with all the old rock work from the old holding little lakes that were built to make drinking water for Santa Fe ages ago. I’ll send you that history from the Nature Conservancy. They have bought that and protected it, and that is also just miles and miles of beautiful walking trails which then connect to the Dale ball trails on the north, where you can walk or ride your bike for even more and more miles because the Dale ball.

People don’t realize how much there is to do on the Historic East Side. It’s just. It’s not just art galleries and restaurants and cute old houses, you know. It’s really  so much nature you can take in so much nature, and most of these things are walkable from the Historic East Side neighborhoods.

When it comes to remodeling a home, many people don’t want to tackle it. But if you have the right builder, no problem. You don’t have to worry. You’re not gonna be getting calls in the middle of the night because a builder who has done historic renovations knows what they’re getting themselves into.
