Learn about how Santa Fe has changed over the past couple years since COVID to be one of the most desirable places to live for all ages.

Building in Santa Fe

I would say typically Santa Fe in the past has been known as sort of like this retirement destination.  A place where people come later on in life. Where they can afford  the amenities that they may have not been able to experience younger. The art world, the high end amenities, the fine dining, the opera, etc. Santa Fe, being a place for second homes and retirement communities has become a thing of the past. I think a lot of this opened up because of the pandemic. We’re starting to see the 30, 40, and 50 year old range coming into Santa Fe, exploring like, wow, this is a, we can, we can work remotely. We can experience a less congested place compared to Denver, Phoenix, Dallas and Austin. Places where a lot of folks have moved over the last decade.

Overtime, Santa Fe has remained small. And a lot of that has to do with jobs, and the access to jobs. And in the past there just haven’t been a lot of reasons why younger people in their twenties, thirties, forties have really wanted to move here, but haven’t been able to sustain the jobs.

Now that the pandemic has sort of thrown a whole wrench in the system where remote jobs are becoming more of the norm. Folks are coming here just by passing by in their thirties saying, ‘Wow, look at what all Santa Fe has to offer. We can ski, we can bike, we can do all of the things that Colorado, Arizona, Texas, California. There’s a lot of things that we can do here that we didn’t realize!’ It’s starting to attract folks, for example, someone who works for a California tech company. Santa Fe may almost look like a bargain in terms of the price of real estate and the amount of land that you can get.

I think it’s becoming more of an attractive place in their younger years and you’re starting to see a nice flood of people coming in. So it’s been, it’s been great to see.
